From passionate car enthusiast to respected industry expert, my journey spans over 30 years of auctions, sales, and unforgettable experiences in the world of classic cars. Here's a look at some of the milestones that shaped my career.
Born in 1951, I developed a passion for cars and sport from an early age, dreaming of a life filled with excitement.
Cars and sport were my passions growing up, and I couldn’t wait to get my first car. After working every holiday, I finally bought a bright red Mini (ETB879E), followed by a 1947 Sunbeam Talbot 10 with its distinctive suicide doors. From there, my love for cars only grew — various Minis came and went, along with MGA’s, MGB’s, an AC Ace (unbelievably affordable back then), and an MG TC during my time in the Navy at RAF Leeming. The passion never faded — and it still drives me today.
I entered the car business by running part of National Car Auctions, combining my love for cars with auctioneering. Whilst there I met Geoff Hamilton and his nephew Mark, and was asked to set up their car auction, Hampsons, which I duly did and we held our first auction, selling over £1m worth of collector cars.
This led to Mark and I starting H&H Classic Auctions in 1993. Which of course is still going strong today. My legacy.
I retired from the business after health issues, transferring the company to employees through an Employee Ownership Trust. I now continue to race my boyhood dream, the Maserati 250F, and the 1964 Mustang and 1950 Allard J2, both of which I’ve owned for over 20 years.
